[Wednesday]
Yesterday I received your parcel, and today Mother’s letter of the 12th. Many thanks for both.
Please do not send foodstuffs anymore. Here I only have one half of the bedside table and my bag at my disposal, and I can’t leave the stuff lying around in the room as it cannot be locked. They check every night at 9 whether everyone is in bed. The goods are all great in itself and tasted great, it is just that I can’t store them. I will give the jam to the kitchen of the hotel. I just cannot sit at breakfast and be the only one eating jam. So please hold yourself to this in future. Give the food to the hospital instead. It is of much better use to the wounded. You don’t have to be afraid I will have lack of anything here. If I want something else to eat I always have time to buy it here. The cigarettes arrived in unsmokeable condition. All the tobacco fell out and lies now loose in the box. The flashlight and the vest were very good. You really didn’t have to buy such an expensive vest. An unlined one would have sufficed too. The waterproof trousers have not arrived yet, neither has the wristband.
I’ll deliver the greeting at the next opportunity, probably tomorrow after the class which is given by these gentlemen. I can have my washing washed and darned here. So I won’t be sending it home, and I don’t need anything at the moment. I am still doing okay.
Many greetings Fritz
